What is rockfall barrier?

Rockfall barrier, also known as rockfall fence, is a physical barrier that is designed to prevent and control rocks and debris from falling and causing damage to people and infrastructure (highways and railways) in mountain terrains.

Rockfall protection can be either active or passive. Active rockfall protection is necessary when there's a real danger of falling rocks. Therefore, it must be designed to be capable of absorbing the impact of the falling rocks and containing these rocks in a way of reducing danger and presenting safeguards for people and property. While when the active rockfall protection is impossible, passive rockfall protection is used as a preventive way of controlling rockfall. It is commonly constructed at location distant from the rockfall source that intercept or divert falling or rolling rocks. It is not intended to prevent rockfall from occurring, but rather to mitigate its effects. Sometimes, the two measures are taken together to provide better rockfall protection effect.

Various Rockfall Barriers Meet Your Rockfall Protection Requirements
In mountain regions, infrastructure facilities and settlements are commonly subject to rockfall hazards. Rockfall is defined as a single rock or group of rocks become detached from the rock face and move downwards while energy and velocity become increase by time. It is a major hazard in rock cuts for highways and railways in mountainous terrain. Whether the rockfall is large or small, it can damage or destroy vehicles, lead to accidents, interrupt traffic flow, and even damage the roadway and cause death. As a result, establishing rockfall barrier in places where highways or railways are built through mountains, planning for the inevitability of rockfalls is essential.

Choose Lanfan

Products cover active protection network, passive protection network, flexible stone blocking network and other series, and are widely used in highway, railway, mine and mountain infrastructure projects. Relying on the independently developed high-strength wire rope and corrosion-resistant coating technology, the performance is far beyond the industry average.
Our barriers are easy to install, the design being made not only to achieve high level performance but also to facilitate the installation process for workers (pre-assembled panels on the posts, climbing steps on the posts, system opening of the curtains).
